Paths for Reconstruction in the 21st Century

The Paths for Reconstruction in the 21st Century project links knowledge to the betterment of the human condition through thinking and practical action. It is based on the assumption that a renaissance of moral action and thought is on the immediate horizon. The project, which is envisioned to span five years, will involve public scholars in different regions of the world via an active Paths blog (to be announced) that will be set up at IPS. We will also organize seminars and engage young people in continuing the work of the project.

The Paths research and action program consists of nine extended inquiries on social transformation:

  1. The Peace Process and the War System
  2. The Economics of Social Justice and Just International Economic Institutions
  3. Democracy, Law, and the State
  4. Cultures, Communities, and Communications
  5. Ecology, Environmentalism, and the Aesthetics of Production
  6. Changing Families and Gender Equality
  7. Social Decency (this encompasses Health and Education)
  8. Reconstructive Inquiry, Science, Technology and the Spirit of Liberation
  9. The Practice of Hope: An Essay on a Research and Action Program for a Society of Decency and Dignity
