Sheridan Circle Memorial 2010

October 14, 2010 ·

Listen to a recording of this year's moving Sheridan Circle memorial ceremony. This annual event honors the memory of Orlando Letelier and Ronni Karpen Moffitt.

On September 21, 1976 agents of the Augusto Pinochet regime planted a car bomb at Sheridan Circle in Washington DC, which brutally took the lives but not the memory of two IPS colleagues, Orlando Letelier and Ronni Karpen Moffitt, who fought for equality and justice through reason, not violence.  Every year, just prior to the Annual Human Rights Awards ceremony we host in thier names, the human rights community, friends, family, colleagues, and supporters gather at Sheridan Circle in remembrance of these tragic assassinations.

This year's memorial included some very moving and brilliant presentations. This audio mix creatively recreates some of them, featuring: Emcee Sarah Anderson, Institute for Policy Studies, an invocation by Reverend Sheila McCurdy, Claudio Grossman, Dean, Washington College of Law, poetry by Saul Landau, the music of Patricio Zamorano, and words by Rodrigo Leiva, nephew of Orlando Letelier.
