Challenging U.S. Support for Israeli Occupation and Apartheid
IPS Fellow Phyllis Bennis and activist/author Omar Barghouti will discuss Palestinian and global campaigns to make Israel comply with international law and human rights.
Divestment from Israel is a call to action on the level of corporate investors. Investors are called on to withdrawal their stocks and funds from corporations complicit in Israel’s violations of international law and Palestinian rights. Individual consumers are called on to show their opposition to Israel’s violations by participating in a consumer boycott of Israeli companies, goods and services or of international companies involved in Israeli policies. And, given the dependency of Israel upon global markets, U.S. sanctions at a state, regional or institutional level can be a highly effective measure to bring about real pressure.
Phyllis Bennis, an Institute for Policy Studies Fellow and independent Palestinian activist/author and founding member of the BDS Movement, Omar Barghouti will discuss Palestinian Civil Society calls for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel until it complies with international law, and universal principles of human rights.
The main event at 7:00 is FREE and open to the public.
There will be a special reception to meet the speakers at 5:30, with a $20 admission. Refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP for the reception by January 5th to Nasser Barghouti, 760-846-1787, or nasserb63@yahoo.com
These events are hosted by BDS Movement.
