“President Obama owned Governor Romney in their second debate on issues of foreign policy, women, immigration, and the 47 percent. He even leveled a fatal blow regarding Benghazi. Don’t get me wrong: Mitt was no wimp, and Obama was no progressive, but Obama had the better plans, the better attacks, and the better handle on the truth than Romney,” writes Karen Dolan of the Institute for Policy Studies.

There are choices that our nation needs to make, and we need leaders who tell the truth to the American people that we're not broke, we've got plenty of money. How are we going to use it? How are we going to spend it? What are our priorities? That's what we didn't hear last night.

[W]hat is far more puzzling is the reason Romney gave CNN's Soledad O'Brien for what sounded very much like callous disregard for the poorest Americans. "I'm not concerned about the very poor," he said. "We have a safety net there. If it needs a repair, I'll fix it." Actually, if you look at Romney's policy agenda, you will see that "fixing it" could not be further from his plan, unless it's doublespeak for "eviscerating it."

"Karen Dolan from the Institute for Policy Studies said the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the global war on terror have cost the U.S. more than $2 trillion. The talk in Washington is for the government to cut spending, and Dolan said studies have shown that combat spending does not create jobs. Cutting military spending, she said, would be “smart because taking money from the military, rather than Social Security or Medicare, would have the impact of increasing U.S. employment,” Dolan said."
